The Consolidation Sale
The last two years have been a good learning experience and a classic case of small business growing pains. Most of you won’t feel or know this but around a year and a half ago the market seemed to drastically change overnight. It would appear that you all realized that you had too many shoes or wanted to start dressing more casually or a combination of both. So the sales for the upper end welted shoe industry started to decline, for everyone. And I mean, everyone. The bubble had finally burst.
So in order to stay afloat and keep up with the times, companies had to change their focus, direction, offering etc. We at J.FitzPatrick Footwear came to the realization that we needed to narrow our stock range i.e. not have so many models. The stock game is a tricky one and essentially that stock if left on shelves, is money just sitting there. We placed a reorder about a month and a half ago for a ‘new, smaller, tighter stockholding’ and want to pretty much start fresh with that. Therefore, want to get rid of the straggling pairs that we have now just sitting on the shelves so that we have a new stockholding that makes sense when it finally comes in.
We realized that the next step for us will be to create a more affordable, entry-level welted range to accompany our streamlined higher-end collection so that we offer more price options to a larger customer base. This will take the J.FitzPatrick Footwear brand to the next level, but of course comes at a larger investment to do it properly. At the minute we are open to any help or advice our clients might have to make this vision a reality. Having grown our company simply by the support of our customers since our launch in 2013 (i.e. without any injections of investment), we are now looking to take it to the next level but with outside investment.
